RYFT track and field athletes training in Englewood Colorado
Adaptive + Paralympic Track & Field

Coach the athlete.
Adapt the path.

RYFT supports adaptive and Paralympic track & field athletes when the event, classification needs, equipment, facility, coaching setup, and athlete goals are a good fit. The goal is the same as with every athlete: clear technical coaching, useful progression, and a training environment built around the event.

What Good Support Means

Adapt the coaching.
Keep the standard.

Adaptive training should not mean lowering the quality of coaching. It means understanding what the athlete needs to perform the event well and changing the setup where necessary.

01
Start with the athlete.
Understand the athlete’s event, experience, classification context, equipment, mobility, goals, and competition demands before choosing the training path.
02
Coach the actual event.
Technical priorities should still come from what the athlete does in competition—not a generic “adaptive workout.”
03
Adapt the environment.
Drills, setup, equipment use, spacing, cueing, or training location may need to change so the athlete can train effectively.
04
Progress what is trainable.
Build technique, strength, speed, rhythm, confidence, and competition execution around the athlete’s individual opportunities and constraints.
Training Options

Choose the environment
that fits the athlete.

Some athletes need direct one-on-one technical work. Others benefit from a team setting with adapted event coaching. RYFT can help determine which environment makes sense.

Event Support

The event determines
the coaching problem.

RYFT can evaluate adaptive athletes across track and field disciplines when the event, facility, staff, and equipment needs align.

Important Fit Boundary
Not every event or athlete should be forced into the same setup.
Adaptive coaching can depend on classification, equipment, accessibility, space, safety, staff expertise, and competition goals. RYFT evaluates fit before recommending club, private coaching, another training environment, or a different next step.
RYFT can coach from the athlete’s known classification and event context, but official classification decisions belong to the relevant governing bodies—not to a normal coaching session.
How To Start

A short intake.
A clearer fit decision.

The fastest way to avoid a poor training match is to share the information that actually changes the coaching setup.

01
Tell us the event and goal.
Include the athlete’s primary event, experience level, competition goals, and whether the need is technical, physical, seasonal, or meet-specific.
02
Share the adaptive context that affects training.
Classification if known, equipment used, relevant mobility/access needs, current training environment, and anything that materially changes the session setup.
03
RYFT recommends the best starting path.
That may be private coaching, Track Club, a hybrid option, or a recommendation that another setup is a better fit.
RYFT Adaptive Path

Serious coaching should
include serious access.

RYFT already serves adaptive athletes within its broader athlete-development model, and the RYFT records system includes a dedicated Paralympic category so marks can be represented alongside other athlete levels.

Adaptive Training FAQ

What families and athletes usually need to know first.

Does RYFT coach adaptive and Paralympic track & field athletes?
Yes, when the athlete’s event, goals, equipment, training needs, facility setup, accessibility, and available coaching are a good fit. RYFT starts with an evaluation rather than assuming one model works for every athlete.
Do I need an official classification before contacting RYFT?
Not necessarily. Share the athlete’s classification if it is already known. If it is not, RYFT can still discuss training fit, but official classification is handled through the appropriate governing process rather than by RYFT coaching.
Can adaptive athletes use private coaching?
Yes. Private coaching may be the best starting point when the athlete needs individualized setup, focused technical work, or a more flexible environment.
Can adaptive athletes join RYFT Track Club?
Potentially. Club fit depends on the athlete’s event, support needs, equipment, practice environment, schedule, and whether the coaching setup can serve the athlete well.
What events can RYFT support?
RYFT evaluates support across track, jumps, throws, strength, and related competition preparation. Exact availability depends on event, athlete needs, equipment, facility access, and staff fit.
